Zika virus fear intensifies in Uttar Pradesh, 2 kids infected in Kanpur

Date:

As the cases of COVID-19 are going down in the entire country, new threats and viruses are emerging in India, not providing any relief to the citizens. In recent news, the vector-borne Zika virus has taken over the Kanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, as cases are increasing each day.

The total tally of Zika virus cases in Kanpur has reached a whopping 79 after two children contracted the virus for the first time on Saturday. Kanpur DM Vishak G made these announcements, making it clear that Kanpur has been gripped by the Zika virus.

The district magistrate further said, “Till 6 November, 79 positive cases for Zika virus have been detected in Kanpur district. Health department’s RRT (rapid response team) is visiting the house of every such patient, their vitals are being taken and they are also being told about the precautions to be taken.”

A total of 13 new cases of Zika virus were reported in Kanpur on Saturday, November 6, out of which two cases were children below the age of 10. As the cases are increasing in the district, the DM has further sought the advice of an expert panel in this regard.

Apart from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, Zika virus cases are now being reported all across the country. The first Zika virus case of Kannauj was reported on Saturday, as per agency reports.

Recently, a total of 30 people in Kanpur were reported positive for the Zika virus, nearly doubling the number of cases in the district that day. Out of these 30 cases, 6 people were Indian Air Force personnel, and their base had to be sealed off due to this.

The state government and district authorities in Kanpur are currently taking measures to curb the spread of the virus, with door-to-door testing, anti-larvae spraying, and identifying fever patients. They are also keeping track of pregnant women and other groups prone to the disease.
