A gaggle of individuals on Saturday pelted stones at police personnel once they tried to remove a statue of B R Ambedkar that was allegedly illegally installed in a single day, leaving two cops injured, a senior official stated.
Circle Officer (CO) Bhubaneshwar Kumar Pandey stated police used “minor force” to disperse the violent crowd in the Bhadohi police station space.
A complete of 11 individuals, together with three ladies, have been arrested on the spot, the police stated.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Kotwali police station Ajay Seth stated a case has been registered towards 51 individuals, together with 21 named individuals, in this connection underneath sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public features), 353 (assault or prison drive to deter public servant from discharge of his responsibility), 332 (voluntarily inflicting damage to deter public servant from his responsibility), 336 (act endangering life or private security of others) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC.
Pandey stated the Ambedkar statue was installed on a platform on Friday night time on the land designated for a pond in Mushilatpur village in town Kotwali space.
The CO stated on receiving a grievance, senior police and administrative officers reached the spot and requested the locals to remove the statue however they resisted.
When the officers tried to remove the statue, the gang indulged in stone pelting, forcing the police to use lathi-charge to disperse the protesters.
The injured personnel have been taken to hospital, he stated.
Tension prevailed in the realm and extra police drive has been deployed to keep regulation and order, the CO stated, including that efforts are on to arrest the others concerned in the incident.
Meanwhile, officers have saved the statue on the police station.
