After the sudden demise of the 46-year old Kannada megastar Puneeth Rajkumar due to a cardiac arrest, there is jittery among the common people fearing heart-related disease. Many hospitals in Bengaluru are crowded with first-time patients who want to know their cardiovascular health, a media report cited.
Doctors say they are seeing this phenomenon for heart check-ups after megastar Puneeth Rajkumar’s death due to cardiac arrest. The number of people coming for cardiac diagnosis and treatment in hospitals and centres has increased across Karnataka.
Doctors say they are trying to convince OPD patients that there should be a family history or multiple symptoms for cardiac problems and it’s not endemic. However, the problem does not end here. A lot of negativity is also spreading about gyms among youngsters, experts observe.
This arises from the fact that Puneeth Rajkumar had suffered cardiac arrest immediately after working out at his home gym. “Now people have the fear that if they go to the gym and do aggressive exercise they may suffer a heart attack. That is not correct. Gyms have nothing to do with heart attack,” said D Steve, founder of Steve Gym Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, as per the media report, the Karnataka government is working on guidelines for gyms. Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar has consulted a few top cardiologists including Dr Devi Shetty and Dr Manjunath to draft the guidelines.
