Meet IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh, who will now handle Aryan Khan drug case

After Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede was removed from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan’s drugs case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh will now handle the case.

Singh is a Deputy Director General-rank officer. 

This development comes after the NCB’s vigilance team initiated an inquiry against Mumbai Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede and others on allegations of corruption and procedural lapses in the Aryan Khan case.

Significantly, Wankhede has also been removed from the case of Sameer Khan, son-in-law of minister Nawab Malik in the Maharashtra government.

However, Wankhede will continue to be the zonal director of Mumbai NCB. He is now separated from the whole matter. 

Who is Sanjay Kumar Singh?

Sanjay Kumar Singh is a 1996-batch Odisha IPS officer. 

Before joining the NCB, Singh headed the Drug Task Force (DTF) of the Odisha Police as Additional Director General (ADG). 

In 2008, Singh worked with the CBI till 2015 as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) handling several high-profile cases.

Sanjay Kumar Singh has also worked as Inspector General of Police (IGP), personnel, Odisha Police and as an additional commissioner of Twin City, Odisha Police.

Singh was sent on deputation to the central agency in January 2021 and he joined the Narcotics Control Bureau as the deputy director-general (DDG).
