Virat Kohli defends senior India bowler, says ‘did the job for us for a long time’

Date:

Ahead of the crucial match against New Zealand on Sunday (October 31), Indian skipper Virat Kohli had a very powerful message and gave back to trolls during the pre-match press conference.

The captain has had a zero-tolerance policy to the blame game and does not like when his boys are trolled after the loss of a match.

The team especially faced backlash after they lost to Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 opening game and the worst to face the wrath were the bowlers as they could not pick even one wicket.

Defending his bowlers, including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, after India’s 10-wicket loss to Pakistan, the skipper said that these boys have done a lot for the team and have even won matches for them.

While addressing a press conference, Kohli, when asked to assess Kumar’s performance, said that he won’t single out any particular bowler as they lost as a team.

“As a bowling group we failed to pick up wickets and we understand that can happen in the sport. These are the same guys who did the job for us for a long period of time. So we understand how things went and where it went wrong.”

The batter further stated that accepting the failure is the first step towards course correction. “We totally accept and know that we got outplayed by the opposition thoroughly.

“You need to accept that as a professional cricket team without any ego, without any excuses whatsoever. We have given none. And we will not give any excuses moving forward either.

“We lost as a team and that’s exactly what we believe in and that exactly was the case in the previous game,” remarked Kohli.

Talking about India’s premier bowler Bhuvi’s form, the pacer, in nine T20I games this year, only bagged as many wickets at an average of 21.33. Moreover, in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season, the bowler grabbed 6 wickets in 11 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
