Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has commented on the BCCI’s latest decision to terminate Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer’s central contracts. The duo failed to prioritize Ranji Trophy over the IPL, as mandated by the board. 

BCCI secretary Jay Shah despatched out a memo to all contracted gamers, emphasizing the significance of First-Class cricket. Former BCCI president Ganguly expressed disappointment over Kishan and Iyer’s reluctance to play within the Ranji Trophy, stating that their decision caught him off guard. Ganguly, a powerful advocate for the importance of home cricket, emphasised the significance of prioritizing First-Class cricket, notably the Ranji Trophy. He reiterated that no matter a participant’s stature, focusing on home cricket, particularly the Ranji Trophy, ought to at all times be a high precedence because it kinds the inspiration of Indian cricket.

“I think the BCCI wants them to play first class cricket. I am surprised why Shreyas Iyer has not played Ranji Trophy. It is a premier tournament and you are supposed to play. So, it is a decision by the BCCI and what they have thought right they have done. Every contracted cricketer must play first class cricket because that is the basic premise of cricket in this country,” Ganguly instructed RevSportz.

Kishan made his return to aggressive cricket after a three-month hiatus on the DY Patil Tournament, whereas Iyer not too long ago made himself out there for Mumbai’s Ranji semifinal. However, their comeback was premature.

The BCCI had already taken motion towards Kishan and Iyer, who had been making ready to play within the IPL for Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. This decision has disillusioned Ganguly, together with many others, as they wrestle to perceive the state of affairs.

“He was a part of the Indian crew in all codecs. Such an enormous contract in IPL. I do not know why he has finished that. You should play particularly if you end up as gifted as Ishan Kishan.
