A soldier was injured throughout an encounter with the militants, who additionally torched five houses in Imphal West district, officers mentioned on Monday.

Defence sources mentioned that armed miscreants resorted to unprovoked firing from Kanto Sabal in the direction of the Chingmang village in Imphal West district through the intervening night time of Sunday and Monday, injuring a soldier.

Army Columns resorted to managed retaliatory fire maintaining in view the presence of villagers in the realm. One Army soldier sustained a gunshot wound and he was instantly evacuated to the Military hospital at Leimakhong and is now secure.

“Additional columns of Army inducted in the realm and joint operations are in progress,” a defence spokesman said.

A police official mentioned that earlier than the gun battle with the Army, militants burnt down five houses at Leimakhong village.
