The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi continues to remain in the ‘very poor’ category as per the Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
As per SAFAR’s analysis at 2.21 pm today, Delhi’s overall air quality was found to be in ‘very poor’ category with overall AQI standing at 339.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the air quality is likely to deteriorate on November 5 and November 6 but remain in the ‘very poor’ category.
Earlier on Wednesday, the concentrations of Pollution Meter (PM) 2.5 and PM 10 stood at 252 in the ‘poor’ and 131 in the ‘very poor’ category respectively. On Wednesday, the capital’s worsened slightly (314) from Tuesday (303). However, if there is no additional pollution from firecrackers, the air quality is expected to remain in the ‘very poor’ range on Friday. “On November 5, the air quality will remain in the ‘very poor’ category, but could deteriorate to ‘severe’ if there are firecracker emissions on Diwali day,” the forecast said.
An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
