Rohit Sharma breaks silence on Rahul Dravid’s appointment as Team India head coach, makes BIG statement

Date:

Hours after the BCCI appointed former India star Rahul Dravid as the new head coach of Team India, opener and India vice-captain Rohit Sharma welcomed Dravid’s appointment. Rohit added that Team India players were looking forward to receive guidance from Dravid.

“We were playing the game (against Afghanistan), so I had no idea (about it). Congratulations to him (Rahul Dravid) for coming back in a different capacity in the Indian team, we look forward to working with him,” Rohit said at the virtual press conference.

Notably, Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team on Wednesday. It is learnt that Dravid’s appointment as Ravi Shastri’s successor was just a matter of time after the BCCI’s top brass succeeded in convincing Dravid to take up the role of Team India head coach.

The former India captain, who was working as the head of National Cricket Academy, will serve as Team India head coach till the 50-over World Cup in India in 2023. Dravid is set to take charge as Team India head coach  from the upcoming home series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on November 17.

“He (Dravid) is a stalwart of Indian cricket and it will be nice working with him in future,” quipped Rohit.
