According to an official of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Aligarh, the incident occurred on January 3 night time when the gateman posted at a railway crossing close to Barhan railway station noticed a flash of light and smoke from a coach of the train which was coming from Assam.
He instantly knowledgeable his superiors on the Barhan railway station after which an RPF staff organized for the train to be stopped on the subsequent station Chamraula.
Simultaneously, as they had been combing by the working train, they discovered that some men had lit a bonfire inside a common coach with dung truffles to get reduction from the intense chilly circumstances.
