NEW DELHI: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has served notices to IndiGo and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) regarding an incident the place passengers of a diverted flight have been seated on the tarmac and supplied refreshments there. The IndiGo flight 6E2195 from Goa to Delhi, diverted to Mumbai on January 14 due to low visibility in Delhi, turned the middle of controversy.

The scenario escalated after a video displaying passengers of this flight consuming refreshments on the tarmac at Mumbai Airport went viral on social.This prompted Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to convene a midnight assembly with ministry officers on January 15-16. Subsequently, within the early hours of January 16, 2024, BCAS issued show-cause notices to each IndiGo and Mumbai Airport.The notices criticized IndiGo and MIAL for his or her lack of proactive measures in dealing with the scenario and facilitating passenger consolation on the airport. The plane was assigned to a distant bay (C-33) as an alternative of a contact stand, additional complicating the scenario by limiting passengers’ entry to fundamental facilities like restrooms and refreshments on the terminal.
A senior ministry official described the incident as an “unfavourable and unacceptable experience for the tired and harassed passengers,” criticizing the flight operation for disregarding passenger comfort, safety norms, and operational issues.

AIRPORT LOOKS LIKE TRAIN STATION

The airline is accused of permitting passengers to disembark onto the apron and later board Flight 6E 2091 on January 15 at Mumbai airport, with out correct safety screening, violating particular orders. Moreover, IndiGo’s failure to report the incident to BCAS is a breach of Rule 51 of the Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023, in accordance to the official.

MIAL, on the opposite hand, was observed for not reporting the incident involving Flight 6E 2195 and never informing the ASG of Mumbai in regards to the scenario. The ministry has demanded responses from each events by January 16, warning that failure to reply inside the stipulated time may lead to enforcement actions, together with monetary penalties.
