The Walking Dead is introducing a gay couple into their mix of survivors.
Following the exit of Rick Grimes last week, we were briefly introduced to some new characters who will be helping the gang with their fight against the walkers.
Among them is Yumiko, and her girlfriend, group leader Magna.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about her character, Eleanor Matsuura, who plays Yumiko, declares that she was a ‘fighter and protector’ which is always pretty useful in an apocalypse.
‘She is fiercely loyal to her girlfriend Magna and the rest of her group whom she considers family,’ she explained.
‘We’ve been surviving on the road together for a long time and I would do anything for them in order to keep them safe, including putting myself on the firing line and breaking the rules once in a while.’
Magna and Yumiko are both present in the comic books of the season, with the pair keeping their relationship a secret from the group until they announce their relationship in issue no. 172 as ‘completely and utterly gay’.
We will now get to know then a little bit more as Judith Grimes (complete with her new hat courtesy of her dad) urges them to join their group of survivors.
They will be joined by other pals Luke, and sisters Connie and Kelly.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC in the US, and on Fox the following day in the UK.
