The Mandalorian Photos Tease Return For Familiar Props in Series

Showrunner Jon Favreau has shared two images from his upcoming live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian that are nods to some pretty interesting parts of the franchise’s history.

The first image, which Favreau shared on Instagram, is a nod to Willrow Hood, a background character in The Empire Strikes Back. During that film, Hood is shown fleeing Cloud City carrying a device similar to the one Favreau shows here.

In the second image, Favreau gave a better look at one of the show’s Amban phase-pulse blasters. One of these weapons also appears in the first image from the production from earlier this month. The weapon is a fitting choice for the show as it made its debut in 1978’s The Star Wars Holiday Special, which also contained the first on-screen appearance of Boba Fett.

Set after the Return of the Jedi and before The Force AwakensThe Mandalorian will “follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Though the most well known Mandalorians are Jango and Boba Fett, the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series provided more insight into the Mandalorian culture. The Clone Wars featured multiple storylines centered around the planet and its eventual siege, and Star Wars Rebels saw the planet’s rescue from the Empire thanks to Sabine of Clan Wren and Bo-Katan.

The Mandalorian will arrive on the Disney streaming service sometime in 2019.
