Star all-rounder Ben Stokes added to England’s Ashes 2021 squad

Date:

In heartening news for England and their fans, star all-rounder Ben Stokes has been given clearance by his consultant and the ECB medical team to participate in the upcoming Ashes series in Australia. Stokes, who had taken an indefinite break from cricket to focus on his mental well-being and recover from the finger injury, underwent a second surgery and since April, it was the first time, he was able to grip the bat fully with that finger.

Stokes will depart for Australia along with the Test contingent and England Lions squad on November 4.

In an ECB statement, Stokes said, “I had a break to prioritise my mental wellbeing and I got my finger sorted.

“I am looking forward to seeing my mates and being on the field with them. I’m ready for Australia,” he added.

Only a few days ago, Stokes had started practice and informed that he is finally pain-free and could hold his bat properly.

“Everyone has a different way of describing progress…my progress is that I am finally pain free and can hold my bat properly when batting …so much more confidence now,and I’m only 2 weeks on from my 2nd surgery.

“Shout out to.. My coaches, all the physios and the surgeon who have helped in this short period so far in my recovery,” he said,

The schedule is yet to be announced for the upcoming Ashes series as the closure of state borders due to COVID-19 lockdowns in the country has affected the fixtures.
