When Sitkowski was lifted from the game with 3:44 left in the third quarter and replaced by Gio Rescigno, Sitkowski departed with an understandably ugly statline – 2-of-16 passing for eight yards.
Rescigno then threw a pick of his own and finished the game 0-for-1.
Rutgers (1-6, 0-4) had six turnovers in the game if you count the screw-up on the kick return and, amazingly, the eight pass yards is not a record thanks to Michigan 78, Rutgers 0 in 2016.
The Scarlet Knights’ running game was better, and more promising, but far from enough
Freshman Isaih Pacheco was the featured back, perhaps a nod Rutgers plans to go all-in on a youth movement in the backfield at the expense of productive veterans Raheem Blackshear and Jonathan Hilliman. He flashed, finishing with over 100 yards and his first career touchdown, although much of the work came with the game well out of hand.
Rutgers has five games left, and it’s clear Chris Ash and his staff have no answers. It’s not what you want.
Here’s a closer look at the game …
