MS Swaminathan, a famend Indian agricultural scientist more popularly often known as the Father of India’s Green Revolution, handed away on Thursday (September 28), at 98 years of age in Chennai. Swaminathan was instrumental in creating high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice, which considerably elevated meals grain manufacturing throughout India throughout the Nineteen Sixties and Seventies.
Swaminathan was born on August 7, 1925 in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district. He handed away at his residence in Teynampet, Chennai at 11.15 am following age-related illnesses, household sources confirmed. Swaminathan is survived by three daughters.
Swaminathan was awarded the primary World Food Prize in 1987 following which he arrange the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) in Taramani, Chennai.
He has been conferred with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan. He can also be the recipient of the HK Firodia award, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award and the Indira Gandhi Prize.
