Soon after his conviction in the Kolkata physician rape-murder case, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy’s mother, Malati Roy, affirmed that she would settle for the punishment given to her son by the Sealdah periods court.
The Sealdah periods court, on Saturday, discovered Sanjay Roy guilty in the horrific rape and homicide of a trainee physician at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, which had led to a nationwide outrage again in August, 2024.
Roy used to work as a civic volunteer at RG Kar Medical College. He was apprehended a day after the incident, after his bluetooth headset was discovered on the incident spot.
In a dialog with The Indian Express, Malati Roy highlighted that she might perceive the ache that the sufferer’s dad and mom went by, given she herself is a mother to 3 daughters.
“I’ve three daughters, I perceive their (the sufferer’s dad and mom) ache. … Let him get any punishment he deserves. Even if the court says hang him, I’ll settle for it”, Roy says.
She furher provides, “However I believe he cannot have done it alone. They say he was even drunk.”
Throwing gentle on her household’s plight since her brother’s arrest, Sabita continued, “Since the day my brother was arrested. Didn’t step out of home. People are talking so much bad things about our family in my neighbourhood. Every Saturday I used to go to a local temple. I have stopped that too.”
Punishment to be pronounced tomorrow
The Sealdah periods court will pronounce the punishment for guilty Sanjay Roy tomorrow, i.e., January 20.
After the court gave its verdict, declaring Roy guilty, the deceased sufferer’s dad and mom broke down earlier than the choose, thanking him for bringing justice to their daughter.
However, Sanjay Roy claimed earlier than the court that he was being “falsely implicated” in the case. “I have been falsely implicated. I have not done this. Those who have done so are being let go. One IPS involved,” he was quoted as saying by information company ANI.
The choose said that he can be heard on Monday, i.e., the day of announcing the punishments for the guilty.
