About 40 individuals had been trapped after an under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Dandalgaon in Uttarkashi collapsed on Sunday.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reaches Uttarkashi to conduct an on-site inspection and evaluation of rescue operations following the landslide incident, by which 40 individuals had been trapped after an under-construction tunnel collapsed on Sunday.
“The PM has assured of all possible help. NDRF, SDRF, other agencies & experts are working to rescue the 40 stranded persons. We want to assure the families of those stranded that the state govt and administration are making every effort to rescue them,” he said whereas speaking to the media.
Heavy excavator machines have been mobilized to take away the particles. Workers trapped within the tunnel have been contacted by means of walkie-talkies.
At current all the employees are said to be protected. Oxygen is being equipped by means of the pipeline laid for supplying water within the tunnel. Through this pipeline, packets of gram have been despatched to the employees trapped within the tunnel at night time underneath stress by means of a compressor. The rescue operation has been occurring all night time and remains to be occurring.
Rescuers say the groups nonetheless should clear about 35 metres of particles extra to achieve the situation of the 40 trapped employees. The rescuers imagine they’ll accomplish this by the night and evacuate the trapped employees.
Prashant Kumar, Circle Officer of Uttarkashi said, “The debris is about 60 meters deep. As we are clearing the debris, it is falling from above. The present situation is, that yesterday we established communication with the people trapped inside the tunnel. We have moved around 15 metres inside the tunnel, and around 35 metres are still to be covered. Everyone is safe, we have provided oxygen and water to them. We are making our way sideways to go inside the tunnel. After establishing communication, around 40 people are trapped inside.”
Karamveer Singh, NDRF Assistant Commander said that plaster had been carried out for 200 meters from the place to begin of the tunnel however there was no plaster past that, which grew to become the principle purpose for this collapse.
“Since yesterday, 10-15 meters more excavation has been done. People trapped inside have been given food and water. By this evening, we will make every effort to ensure that all these people come out safely. There are 40 people inside and all of them are safe. Plaster has been done for 200 meters from the starting point of the tunnel but there is no plaster beyond that, hence it has suddenly subsided. When the machines are working, debris is falling from above, which is causing some trouble,” he said.
The tunnel, as soon as accomplished, will join Silkyara to Dandalgaon in Uttarkashi. It is being constructed underneath the Char Dham Road Project which goals to cut back the journey from Uttarkashi to Yamunotri Dham by almost 26 kilometres.
