CHENNAI: In an effort to attract more students, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has reduced the duration of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree from three years to two years from 2020-21. “University Grants Commission (UGC) in its meeting held in December, 2019, approved the decision to reduce the MCA course duration from three years to two years,” said Rajive Kumar, member secretary of AICTE, in a circular to all approved colleges and universities.
Colleges, however, said the move may not help attracting students since job prospects were poor. “The course is already only two years for students who completed BSc computer science and BCA at UG level. For students who completed other degrees with maths as a subject, they have to do a three year degree,” said career consultant Jayaprakash Gandhi.
