Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley are set to host the CMA Awards next week for the 11th time together.
The pair visited “Good Morning America” on Friday to chat about hosting the show.
“We’re hoping, especially next week, to give everybody a bunch of laughs. It’s just going to be fun,” Paisley said.
After a week of national news that included wildfires and shootings, he said, “Everybody’s just trying to hold each other close.”
The pair are known for outfit changes and making fond jokes of each other on stage, and they said this year will be no different.
“Getting together, writing the script” are important to the process, Underwood said.
“Finding our characters was a big deal, finding out who we are up there. It’s different than who we are necessarily with other people, and being able to write it ourselves has been a big deal, and we have a big hand in that,” Paisley said.
Underwood is expecting her second child, and said she has not told Paisley anything about the gender of the baby, after he revealed that information live on stage in 2014.
“I didn’t even tell Brad,” she said.
“She knows better,” he said.
The CMA Awards are scheduled to air at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, on ABC. This year is the 52nd edition of the annual celebration of country music’s biggest stars.
