Workers at Samsung’s India unit go on indefinite strike

CHENNAI: Samsung India’s worker union has alleged that the corporate is concerned in weakening and destabilising the staff’ labour union and floating a aggressive one. Around 1,500 employees of the corporate went on an indefinite strike on Monday, alleging the South Korean tech big sabotaged the prevailing union and compelled staff to work extra time. They even have issues round wage revision and wish the corporate to carry talks with the union.
The union, affiliated with CITU, was fashioned two months in the past with 1,550 employees at the Samsung Electronics plant at Sunguvarchatram, close to Sriperumbudur, west of Chennai. The Union is but to be registered below the Registrar of Unions. E Muthukumar, president of the union, mentioned, “Our calls for weren’t met and the administration has urged us to disband the union. They are hindering the popularity of the union by elevating complaints. When the union took a call to cease extra time, the administration compelled staff to work extra time as much as 11 hours.
