Vellayan Subbiah, chairman of Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Co, wins EY World Entrepreneur of the Year award

NEW DELHI: Executive vice-chairman of Tube Investments of India and chairman of Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Co Vellayan Subbiah has received the EY World Entrepreneur of The Year 2024 title.
Subbiah was chosen from practically 5,000 businesspeople worldwide. He was awarded the title at an occasion in Monaco,
India’s third win in a decade solidifies its standing as the solely nation throughout EY areas to realize this feat.
Vellayan assumed management in his household’s enterprise a decade and a half in the past, and guided Cholamandalam by a tumultuous partnership and world financial downturn.
During his tenure as chairman, the firm’s market capitalisation elevated 60 instances.

Subbiah mentioned as half of a fourth-generation household enterprise, the spirit of entrepreneurship runs deep inside him. “I firmly believe that by approaching challenges as opportunities and committing ourselves to a path of self- improvement, there is no limit to what we can achieve,” he mentioned.
Vellayan joins the ranks of Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (2020), Uday Kotak (2014), and Narayana Murthy (2003) as recipients of the prestigious World Entrepreneur of the Year (WEOY) award.
The EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 was chosen by an unbiased panel primarily based on 4 key standards: entrepreneurial spirit, objective, development and influence. This 12 months, the panel comprised a gaggle of entrepreneurs from round the globe, led for the second consecutive 12 months by Kaszek Ventures cofounder and managing associate Hernan Kazah.
