The railways have established holding areas in varied stations as a part of its preparation in anticipation of a surge in Maha Kumbh pilgrims through the final week of the non secular congregation in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, the ministry stated on Thursday. This comes days after a stampede on the New Delhi Railway station claimed 18 lives. 

According to authorities, confusion over nearly similar practice names after an announcement of the platform quantity for an arriving Prayagraj-bound particular practice sparked panic and a sudden rush resulting in the tragedy. In an announcement on Thursday, the railway ministry urged passengers to cooperate and cling to official pointers to make sure clean and secure journey operations.

It stated the railways has established holding areas at varied stations in Northern Railway, North Central Railway, North Eastern Railway, and East Central Railway. These holding areas are positioned outdoors the platforms to assist management the circulate of passengers and forestall overcrowding, it stated.

“Passengers are allowed to enter the platforms based on the scheduled departure times of their trains. This initiative aims to improve crowd management and enhance passenger safety, especially during peak hours and festive seasons,” the ministry stated.

It stated the Northern Railway has created large holding areas in Ghaziabad, Anand Vihar, New Delhi, Ayodhya Dham, and Banaras. The North Eastern Railway has additionally created holding areas at Banaras, Siwan, Ballia, Deoria, Chhapra and Gorakhpur.

Similar initiatives have been taken by East Central Railway and North Central Railway, the ministry stated.

Ministry officers are of the view that such holding areas and crowd administration measures are already in place in railway stations in Prayagraj to make sure better comfort of passengers whereas boarding trains.
