Two terrorists killed in separate J&K encounters, LeT associate arrested in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR: Two terrorists were killed in separate encounters by security forces in J&K’s Budgam and Pulwama districts on Monday, while a Lashkar-e-Taiba associate was arrested in Ganderbal district. Police are yet to ascertain the identities of the slain terrorists and their affiliation.
“Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation at Berhampora area of Chadoora in Budgam district where a terrorist was allegedly hiding in a brick kiln. As the search party approached closer to the hideout, the terrorist opened fire at the forces, triggering a gunfight in which he was killed,” said a police officer. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
In another anti-terror operation in Kultrah area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, one terrorist was gunned down by security forces after a brief gunbattle, said a defence spokesperson.
In central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, police arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba associate based on a tip-off. According to police records, Tariq Ganai — a resident of Fraw Haknar in Ganderbal’s Gund area — was assisting active terrorists of the proscribed outfit and providing them with logistic support. “He is being questioned. An investigation is underway,” said a police spokesperson.
In north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, security forces timely recovered and defused an improvised explosive device planted under a bridge on a national highway near Panzla village in Rafiabad area.
