Born in Tenali and raised in Vizag, Sobhita Dhulipala moved to Mumbai at 16 to pursue higher studies and eventually graduated from the HR College with a degree in commerce. Hailing from a family of PhD holders, she admits being a recluse and living a geeky childhood. Before stepping foot into the glamour arena, she was trained in classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. At the end of college, the leggy lass auditioned for the Femina Miss India Contest when a classmate encouraged her since she was tall.

Besides bagging the title of Femina Miss India South and representing the country at Miss Earth 2013, Sobhita won the sub-titles of Miss Eco Beauty, Miss Stylish Hair, and Miss Photogenic. After enjoying a fruitful stint in modelling, the ‘Kaalakaandi’ actress admitted during an interview that she would constantly feel the gap between real life and the glamorous world of modelling. After holding her place for the initial period, she decided to start auditioning for advertisements and learn Hindi as well. After starring in a string of Bollywood films, Sobhita stepped foot into Telugu cinema with Adivi Sesh’s 2018 spy-thriller ‘Goodachari’. Though it was her maiden project in Telugu, the 27-year-old played the complex role of Sameera with a lot of conviction and ease. The following year, she made her Malayalam debut with Geetu Mohandas’ Moothon and played the crucial role of a sex worker named Rosy. In the lead role of Tara Khanna who runs a wedding planning company which targets the city’s uber-rich, she stole the show in the popular web-series ‘Made in Heaven’.

Recently, Sobhita Dhulipala has issued a clarification after she was accused of making false claims of ‘self-timing’ a magazine photo-shoot. The authenticity of her claim came under scrutiny after snapshots of her being clicked on her terrace by a man went viral on social media. Taking to Instagram, she mentioned that the pictures ultimately used by the magazine were all clicked by her. The man in the viral photo was a stranger who offered to click a photo for her. She also added that she was ‘taken aback’ by the accusations levelled against her.

Besides playing a pivotal role opposite Dulquer Salmaan in the upcoming Malayalam film Kurup, a biopic on Kerala’s most wanted criminal, Sobhita Dhulipala has been recently roped in for Sashi Kiran Tikka’s Major. Starring Adivi Sesh as the protagonist, the bilingual film is inspired by Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the NSG commando who lost his life in the tragic 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai. She is also essaying a crucial role in Mani Ratnam’s historical-drama Ponniyin Selvan.
