No surprise, then, that a lot of Wii U games have already been ported to the console, giving those who missed the Wii U a chance to play the failed console’s greatest titles.
Another one, reports say, is coming over — a full-fledged Legend of Zelda title, at that.
Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword Coming To Switch?
According to recent reports, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma, during a recent Zelda concert performance at the Nintendo Live event in Osaka, Japan, apparently teased that Skyward Sword is coming to the hybrid console. Yes, the Wii title originally released in 2011 that heavily relied on motion controls and became controversial because of such a scheme.
“I know what you’re waiting for — Skyward Sword for Switch. Right?” Aonuma said onstage during the event. Backing up the report are multiple Twitter updates from those who were in attendance, each mentioning that the game would be heading to the Switch.
If the game is indeed arriving on Nintendo’s latest console, then that begs the question as to why it never arrived on the Wii U in the first place. On second thought, though, it makes sense: the Wii U was never meant to be played with Wii remotes. In fact, they were only optional as the main controller of the Wii U was the included GamePad. Developers would have had to require players to purchase remotes to fully enjoy the game.
What About The Controls?
Not so with the Switch. The Joy-Con controllers are already packed with motion-sensing technology, used by games such as Mario Tennis, ARMS, and a lot more. That means developers can have more freedom porting Skyward Sword to the console because it already has the necessary technology to support the game’s motion-focused control schemes. Then again, the team could very well change this and make the game more traditional, which is something players had originally wished for given that the controls oftentimes proved finicky or a chore to pull off properly.
It’s not certain whether Nintendo will port the game with its original motion controls intact, but in any case, it would be a natural fit for the console.
