CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi may have reached his hotel past 10 pm after his five-hour meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, but he was up early in the morning for a stroll on the beach. And in the process, he did plogging.
Carrying a plastic bag, the Prime Minister walked around picking up trash on the beach. Wearing a black t-shirt, he also spent time on the beach, walking and sitting on a rock facing the sea.
Later, he tweeted, “Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of hotel staff.”

He stressed on the need to keep beaches clean. “Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy. Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy.”
Plogging, picking up garbage while jogging, started in Sweden and spread as a movement to different countries.
