Images of Porsche’s newest flagship model have been leaked online.
Ready to be unveiled in full at the 2018 Los Angeles motor show this week, the next-generation 911 has been shown in Carrera 4S trim after images leaked on an online car forum ahead of its public debut.
Easily identifiable in shape and sporting the same iconic round headlights as the current Porsche 991 generation, the 992 911 Carrera gets wider haunches and a new bumper design under the nose. On the sides, the mirrors are sleeker and the door handles sit flush into the panel, likely popping out to open the door on approach. Around back is a narrow-LED taillight cluster that cuts across the rear-end similar to the new Panamera and Cayenne.
Further detail of what lurks underneath remain closed but the Carrera is tipped to carry-on an iteration of the same 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine found in the 991, with a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission to debut with the car on display in LA.
The new DCT transmission has been designed to mate with an electric motor that will later launch as the first-ever hybrid 911 while a manual transmission will continue to be available in a series of variants.
Also borrowed from the new Panamera is an updated interior with the latest technology, such as a widescreen display across the centre console, digital driver’s display that will likely incorporate classic 911 analogue tachometer and touch-capacitive buttons for altering car settings.
The model will launch in Australia mid-2019 and more details will fall during the show, such as drivetrain updates and technology enhancements. Tune in to Drive this week as we report back with all of the latest details.
