Makar Sankranti is here and Bollywood celebrities will soon indulge in the festivity of kite flying. Bollywood movies have often depicted the festival of Uttarayan in their films and few celebs have marked the occasion as part of film promotions. From Amitabh Bachchan to Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar – here’s taking a look at how Bollywood stars have celebrated the festival of Makar Sankranti over the years.
Back in 2015, Amitabh Bachchan visited Ahmedabad, Gujarat to celebrate the festival of Uttarayan. The actor indulged in the activity as part of promotions for his film ‘Shamitabh’. Big B was snapped enjoying kite flying with his co-stars Dhanush and Akshara Haasan, as well as director R Balki. Speaking about Makar Sankranti memories, Amitabh Bachchan had told ETimes in an interview, “I started flying kites at a very young age. At that time we had a limited pocket money, so apart from buying kites from our pocket money we used to gather kites from varied sources like the ones that were there on the next terrace or the kites which got cut and fell on our terrace and so on. Be it tying the kiniya the night before kite flying fest to petty fights with friends to sharing the same kite with them we all had one helluva time.”
Salman Khan entertained everyone with the ‘Kai po chee’ song from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ on the silver screen as he enjoyed the kite flying festival. And in real life, the actor travelled to Ahmedabad in 2014 to celebrate Makar Sankranti. The actor was snapped on a rooftop, flying a kite along with then Gujarat Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Akshay Kumar has made it a sort of annual ritual to fly kites with his daughter. The actor makes it a point to wish his fans on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and share a post on Instagram, giving a glimpse of his celebrations. Akshay is accompanied by daughter Nitara for the kite flying festivity, she usually holds the kite spool for her daddy dearest.
