Govt lists norms to tackle mental health issues


The government has issued guidelines for general and specialised mental health care during the Covid-19 pandemic which has had a psychological bearing on many people, reports Ambika Pandit.
The detailed document, prepared by Bengaluru-based National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS), calls upon policy-makers to ensure that mental health issues are integrated into the broad framework of Covid-19 care. The document says setting up helplines is key for Covid patients admitted to hospitals, or in home quarantine, in order to help them get over the stigma attached to the disease. The guidelines caution about suicide risk of not just those exposed to Covid-19 pandemic but also front-line healthcare professionals.
