Forest fire triggers explosions along LoC in Poonch

JAMMU: A forest fire on Wednesday triggered several landmine explosions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
The fire started in a forest area across the Line of Control and rapidly spread to this side in Balakote sector of Poonch. “The forest fire also triggered some explosions of anti-personnel landmines were planted as a part of an anti-infiltration grid,” according to sources.
In a similar incident on October 6, a huge forest fire had also triggered several landmine explosions along the LoC in Poonch district. The fire had started in a forest area across the LoC and spread to this side in Mendhar and then to Balakote, Balnoi and Mankote.
In yet another incident, a huge tract of forest in Poonch was destroyed in a similar fire that started from across the LoC in Mankote sector on June 19.
