West Ham beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park to secure their first Premier League points of the season as Marco Silva tasted defeat for the first time as Everton manager.

A much-changed West Ham side took the lead after 11 minutes following a swift counter-attack through Andriy Yarmolenko and the Ukrainian forward curled a stunning shot into the net 20 minutes later to make it two.

Gylfi Sigurdsson headed Everton back into the match on the stroke of halftime, but Marko Arnautovic’s goal just after the hour mark ensured West Ham climbed off the bottom of the table and up to 16th.

Everton did not manage a single shot on target in the second half as they slipped to only their third defeat by West Ham in their last 21 Premier League meetings.

Everton XI: Pickford, Kenny, Holgate, Zouma, Digne, Gueye, Schneiderlin, Walcott, Sigurdsson, Calvert-Lewin, Tosun.

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Zabaleta, Balbuena, Diop, Masuaku, Obiang, Noble, Rice, Yarmolenko, Arnautovic, Anderson.

EVERTON 1-3 WEST HAM

FT: West Ham chalk up their first points of the season against a lacklustre Everton. A first-half brace from Andriy Yarmolenko and a third from Marko Arnautovic made sure Manuel Pellegrini could relieve some of the pressure on his shoulders.

93: Everton fans filtering out of the stadium now as West Ham professionally see this one out. Not seen anything of Ademola Lookman since replacing Theo Walcott.

Bernard booked for retribution on Snodgrass.

91: Snodgrass takes a ’smart’ booking for a foul on Bernard right in the corner. Digne and Sigurdsson standing over it… over! Niasse rose highest but skewed it.

90: Antonio looks to add insult to injury with a late fourth. He escapes the attentions of Gueye and Holgate before Zouma drifts over to block.

Five minutes added time.

87: The rare sound of signing and gloating West Ham fans is echoing around Goodison Park in these closing stages. The visitors have deserved their victory and can start counting their first points of the season.

85: Woodwork! That HAS to be a goal. It’s one hell of a miss from Oumar Niasse, who strikes Lucas Digne’s terrific bending cross against the crossbar from three-yards away.

The lack of a clinical striker is killing Everton this season.

83: Brave goalkeeping from Fabianski. He races off his line to punch clear Kenny’s cross and collides with Niasse win the process. It doesn’t look like we’re going to see ant late drama.

80: Corner to Everton turns into a corner for West Ham in the blink of an eye. Diop rises highest to clear and Anderson runs it out – eventually seeing a near-post effort blocked.

78: I always find it strange when the PA announcer decides to inform everyone of the attendance when the home side is struggling to claw back a two-goal deficit. Anyway, the attendance is 39k for anyone who cares.

76: Nope. Yarmolenko takes the free-kick right on the nose and promptly hits the deck. Precious seconds ticking away as Ademola Lookman comes on for Theo Walcott.

75: Oumar Niasse’s first contribution is to overhit a through ball to Theo Walcott, who was darting in from the right. He then sends a cross that’s too close to Fabianski.

There’s no immediate sign of a second for the Toffees. Or is there? Rice is booked for dragging Walcott down and this, I think you’ll find, is Gylfi Sigurdsson range…

72: Manuel Pellegrini responds with a change of his own as Carlos Sanchez replaces Mark Noble.

70: And that proved to be Cenk Tosun’s last action of a very poor afternoon. He’s off, Oumar Niasse takes his place.

67: Poor from Cenk Tosun. A few ricochets sees the striker sneak behind the West Ham defence but he spins and fizzes the ball miles over.

64: Marko Arnautovic limps off on 63 minutes and heads straight down the tunnel. That’s a blow for the Hammers, but I suppose he’s more than played his part today.

EVERTON 1-3 WEST HAM | ARNAUTOVIC

61: Is that West Ham’s first three points of the season? You’d probably say so.

With the game so open and frantic, there’s few better players than Marko Arnautovic on the pitch. Obiang collects the ball in midfield and slips it over to Arnautovic, who toe-pokes past a diving Jordan Pickford.

It’s silent inside Goodison Park… aside from the West Ham fans of course.

60: Oh this is getting seriously tasty now. It’s thrilling end-to-end stuff as Everton commit bodies forward searching for an equaliser.

Lucas Digne who drives a looping clearance towards goal but a series of deflections sees the ball fall kindly for Mark Noble, and the West Ham veteran nearly takes advantage of a mix-up between Jonjo Kenny and Kurt Zouma.

57: Andriy Yarmolenko you luck boy! The winger inexplicably leaves a searching cross to the far post and doesn’t see Lucas Digne behind him. Fortunately for the West Ham man Digne doesn’t anticipate it.

Penalty appeal! Obiang and Sigurdsson have a coming together inside the area but Martin Atkinson waves play away. Rightly so.

54: Nice skill from Bernard. He escapes Yarmolenko before being pulled back. Booking for the West Ham winger.

51: The visitors know they can’t afford to sit back and absorb pressure for 45 minutes. Anderson weaves his way forward before a reverse pass finds Obiang, who slices wide.

49: “If my doctor told me I had an hour left to live I would want it to be while West Ham is holding on to a lead. It’s always the longest hour there is,” from a West Ham fan on Twitter.

48: The Toffees click straight into gear with Jonjo Kenny racing down the right to deliver a dangerous cross but Balbuena was there to head clear. Nerves jangling all around the stadium now. It’s seriously tense.

EVERTON 1-2 WEST HAM

45: OK, we’re back underway at Goodison Park. No changes for either side at the break.

EVERTON 1-2 WEST HAM

HT: What a blow for West Ham right before the whistle. Everton are right back in it thanks to Gylfi Sigurdsson. Manuel Pellegrini will be delighted with the vast majority of what he’s seen from his side – especially Andriy Yarmolenko.

EVERTON 1-2 WEST HAM | SIGURDSSON

47: Everton have pulled one back with the very last kick of the first half!

It’s extremely patient play from the hosts, switching right to left with Idrissa Gueye eventually finding Jonjo Kenny on the right. The young full-back delivers a powerful cross that captain Gylfi Sigurdsson heads beyond Fabianski.

Now we have a game on our hands folks. Standby for an epic second-half.

45: Two minutes of added time. Not really much time for Bernard to make an impact.

44: First-half substitute? Marco Silva makes a change with Brazilian playmaker Bernard replacing Morgan Schneiderlin.

43: Sigurdsson takes the free-kick but strikes it low straight at Fabianski. Digne, who has been Everton’s best player, crosses but Walcott can’t get up.

40: Now then, this is a big decision. Everton fans are screaming for a penalty and red card when Masuaku raises his boot high and connects with Walcott’s face.

Referee Martin Atkinson, quite righty, awards the feee-kick and shows the West Ham man a yellow card.

38: Close! Walcott picks the ball up on the right and drills a low, teasing delivery into the penalty area but there’s no blue shirts there to apply the finish.

36: Everton upping the tempo towards half-time. West Ham are caught cold and Cenk Tosun is allowed to stroll through the middle and test Fabianski with a relatively tame effort.

33: Theo Walcott takes a volley on from the corner of the penalty area and Fabianski has to dive backwards to tip it over the crossbar.

EVERTON 0-2 WEST HAM | YARMOLENKO

30: Take a bow, Andriy Yarmolenko. It’s his first Premier League start for West Ham and he’s already notched up a brace!

That is special. The Ukrainian cuts in from the left and curls a beauty into the corner after Jordan Pickford made a poor clearance straight to Mark Noble.

Lucas Digne didn’t really close the space and allowed Yarmolenko as much space as he needed.

EVERTON 0-1 WEST HAM

29: Jordan Pickford spares Schneiderlin’s blushes when the midfielder gifts Anderson possession. The goalkeeper anticipates the ball forward and clears it off Arnautovic’s toes.

28: For the second time this afternoon, Idrissa Gueye thinks he’s Thomas Hitzlsperger and leathers one miles wide of the target. Note to self, must use more modern references…

25: It should be 1-1. Lucas Digne blazes down the left and sends a wonderful cross over to Cenk Tosun, who heads straight at Fabianski. Either side and Everton would be level.

Just one goal in 12 appearances for the Turkey international, who is currently killing my fantasy football team.

22: Arnautovic hits the deck under pressure from Holgate but there’s very little in that. The Sky Sports cameras pan to Richarlison, who is sitting in the stands today. How Everton are missing the Brazilian.

19: Everton supporters are not impressed with what they are seeing here. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is booked for tugging back Mark Noble. It’s all West Ham at the minute.

16: Andriy Yarmolenko is the fourth Ukrainian player to score in the Premier League (also Rebrov, Shevchenko and Voronin) and the first since Andriy Voronin for Liverpool against Spurs in May 2008.

15: Close! Felipe Anderson whips a cross in from the right and Obiang nearly diverts the ball past Pickford, but the Everton stopper makes a decent save.

13: West Ham aren’t resting on their laurels here – they want a second. Everton’s defence just parts the second a high ball is delivered and Arnautovic or Yarmolenko are picking up the pieces.

EVERTON 0-1 WEST HAM | YARMOLENKO

11: West Ham have barely entered Everton territory but they find themselves ahead here at Goodison Park thanks to Andriy Yarmolenko.

Obiang plays a simple and direct ball over the top that Arnautovic collects. The Austrian drives towards goal and unselfishly picks out the unmarked Yarmolenko, who rifles it past Jordan Pickford.

Those six changes might just have done the trick!

10: Walcott leaves Masuaku for dead down the right before weaving his way into the penalty area and winning a corner, which is promptly cleared by Zabaleta. Gueye looks for a 40-yard stonker but barely prods it three feet. Not one for the highlights reel.

8: Both sides just sizing each other up in these early stages before Mark Noble spanks a 40-yard crossfield pass straight out of play.

5: Yarmolenko does his defensive duties when tracking back to usher Digne out of play over in the far corner by the travelling West Ham supporters, who are making themselves heard.

3: The Toffees are immediately on the front-foot with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Theo Walcott exchanging a couple of passes before the Iceland international sees an effort blocked.

Lucas Digne then looks to drive one from range but he’s sliced it high and wide. I’ll be nice and call that one a sighter.

EVERTON 0-0 WEST HAM

1: And we’re off! I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that this is going to be a crazy afternoon. So my prediction (that I will definitely change should I be wrong) is a ludicrous 4-2 to the Toffees. You heard it here first…

TWO-MINUTE WARNING

15:58: We’re almost underway folks. The players have just emerged to a sunny Goodison Park to Z-Cars. Big day for Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is Everton’s captain for the first time today.

TWITTER SPAT

15:55: Manuel Pellegrini says he’s not angry about reports that West Ham starting line-ups are being leaked.

The West Ham boss remains adamant he is unfazed by the Twitter account, which it has been reported correctly predicted more than 60 Hammers starting teams.

The social media account has more than 50,000 followers, who are often told the starting line-up well in advance of it being officially published on the club’s channels.

But Hammers manager Pellegrini believes it makes little difference if the public know his starting team ahead of time.

Asked if he is angry about the repeated leaks, Pellegrini replied: “No. First of all the news is not true, because I’m not angry about that. Normally in every team that I have managed, the day before the game, I work with set-pieces, so all the players know the day before who will play and who will not play.”

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES…

15:50: West Ham have made six changes to their starting line-up from their previous Premier League game; the most changes the Hammers have made in the Premier League since January 2014 v Cardiff (7 changes).

Now I have absolutely no idea what you’re supposed to do with that information. Enjoy!

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Brad: So here we go again. Fifth game in and does West Ham’s season start yet? Keeping the faith as much as I can but what more do we honestly expect? Tough afternoon ahead.

Roger: To spend £100million and still end up with a midfield trio of Obiang, Rice and Noble illustrates just how poor the recruitment strategy has been at West Ham.

Kev: Life as a West Ham fan, looking forward to 90 minutes of pulling my hair out and screaming at the TV.

TEAM NEWS – WEST HAM

15:40: Manuel Pellegrini isn’t messing around here. The Chilean makes SIX changes from the Wolves defeat.

Pablo Zabaleta, Arthur Masuaku, Pedro Obiang, Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Andriy Yarmolenko replace Ryan Fredericks, Aaron Cresswell, Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Robert Snodgrass and Michail Antonio.

Javier Hernandez is out of the squad having picked up a virus. Crucial changes or desperation?

TEAM NEWS – EVERTON

Marco Silva has made two changes to the side who drew with Huddersfield before the international break.

It’s quite a youthful defence for the Toffees today with Kurt Zouma and Mason Holgate being flanked by Kenny and summer signing Lucas Digne, who is selected ahead of Leighton Baines.
