Bayonetta 1 + 2 are heading to Nintendo Switch (update)

Both Bayonetta games are heading to Nintendo Switch next February, the publisher announced during The Game Awards 2016.

The Nintendo Switch port of Wii U’s Bayonetta 2 will include a full game download for the original Bayonetta, much like the Wii U game’s original release. A teaser trailer showed gameplay footage of the action game cult classics running on Switch in handheld mode — the first time the games have been playable on the go.

PlatinumGames first launched Bayonetta in 2009 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since then, it has come to Wii U and Windows PC.

Bayonetta 3 will come to Nintendo Switch as well, which Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed as a surprise second announcement during The Game Awards. The teaser was incredibly brief, but confirmation may be enough for longtime fans of the series.

Bayonetta 3 will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Meanwhile, the first Bayonetta and its sequel will launch simultaneously for the console on Feb. 16, 2018.

Correction: Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will launch Feb. 16, earlier than we previously reported. The story has been updated to reflect this.
