Mayank Agarwal (34*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (19*) took on the battle with the new ball after India lost Rohit Sharma early in the morning session on Day 1 of the second Test in Pune. India went into lunch with 77/1 on the board. After winning the toss for the second time in the Test series, skipper Virat Kohli once again opted to bat first. The South African pacers took advantage of the fresh wicket and new ball and tested the Indian batsmen. Both the openers survived a few close calls but Rohit’s luck eventually ran out as Kagiso Rabada sent him packing for 14 with a brilliant away-swinger that took the outside edge of his bat. Mayank and Pujara then dug in to steady India’s innings. South African pacers were excellent in the morning session as they bowled at terrific line and lengths. Towards the end of the session, Mayank and Pujara got going as they collected a few boundaries off the South African bowlers. Earlier, India made one change in their eleven, bringing in Umesh Yadav in place of Hanuma Vihari. South Africa also made one change, getting in Anrich Nortje in place of Dane Piedt.

TOSS NEWS: India win the toss, Virat Kohli opts to bat first
8:50 am: Hello and good morning! We are back with our continued coverage of South Africa’s tour of India, and the action has shifted to the MCA Stadium in Gahunje, Pune, where the second Test begins today.
India lead the three-Test series 1-0, after winning the Vizag Test with a comprehensive margin of 203 runs.
Virat Kohli’s men ticked almost all the boxes during their big win in the opening Test of the series, and they would like to maintain the same intensity in their bid to seal the series in Pune itself.
It was at this very ground in Pune that the India team endured its last Test batting collapse at home, against Australia in 2017 on a rank turner where off-spinner Nathan Lyon made lives miserable.
While India, unless forced by any unforeseen injury, are unlikely to change their playing XI, the South Africans might be tempted to drop one among Senuran Muthusamy and Dane Piedt, who were taken to the cleaners by the Indian batsmen. It could well be Muthusamy and in that case batsman Zubayr Hamza may get a look in. If Piedt is dropped, the Proteas could be tempted to try Lungi Ngidi, who could make a difference with his pace and movement.
