The visual changes are minor at best, as you’d expect.

Low-resolution press shots published online have partially ruined Porsche‘s surprise for the 2018 Los Angeles auto show by revealing the new 2020 911. The photos were posted on Jalopnik, who received them from an anonymous tipster.

No one will mistake the 911 for anything else. The overall design changes little, which is is exactly what we expected; Porsche knows better than to mess with the 911. The biggest modifications are out back, where the next-generation 911 receives thinner headlights and a rear bumper insert that incorporates oval exhaust tips.

Photos of the interior haven’t been leaked, so we’ll have to wait until the Los Angeles show to tell what the 911 looks like inside. We expect the overall design won’t change much but Porsche will raise the tech quotient, notably with more (and bigger) screens. The 911 will remain a 2+2, like it always has.

As we previously reported, the next 911 (which is known as the 992 internally) will carry on with the current model’s turbocharged engines. Rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed manual transmission will come standard, and buyers will be able to order all-wheel drive, a dual-clutch automatic transmission, or both. Two electrified variants could join the line-up later in the production run, though details about those won’t be released anytime soon.

Porsche has confirmed it will unveil the 2020 911 at the 2018 Los Angeles auto show that opens its doors next week. Stay tuned, Leftlane will be on-location to bring you live images of it as soon as it breaks cover.
